Mission

The mission of the Ninth Oar is to assist and enhance the Sonoma State University Rowing Club Team at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, California. By providing the team with financial support we hope that the Sonoma State collegiate oarsmen and women can concentrate their energies on their rowing and academic performances.

The Ninth Oar maintains three areas of focus including: building a new boathouse on the Petaluma river, acquiring top-level boats and equipment for the team, and creating an alumni sponsored endowment that will finance the operations of the team for years to come.

Goal

The following three priorities are those in which the Ninth Oar has undertaken to help take Sonoma State Rowing to the next level.

Equipment – to help support the growth and maintenance of Sonoma’s fleet of boats and inventory of equipment. This is to include the purchase of new or used equipment as the club grows and expands in the coming years. Such equipment may include racing shells, hardware, cox-boxes, uniforms, training gear, etc.

Endowment – Three endowments will be set in place:

  1. Equipment endowment to support the equipment purchasing needs of the tea
  2. Operating endowment to support expenditures related to coaching, travel, administrative fees, etc.
  3. Scholarships to support our student athletes while they pursue their academic ventures

These endowments will be set in place with the ultimate goal of completely supporting all equipment and operating costs of the team.

Boathouse – Provide a permanent home for the team by constructing a new boathouse along the Petaluma River.

If you decide this is something you would like to support please join us in our cause.
