In the past year, after collecting donations from our members the Ninth Oar was able to purchase one new coxbox (approx. $600) for the team. In conjunction, the team added new Vespoli eight to their fleet and this coxbox proved to be a valuable investment in the future success and growth of the club. In the future, your contributions will go towards similar purchases for the team as well as other team scholarships.
Furthermore, as Club team, the university does not offer the same level of support that it does with varsity sports. As a result many of our members must hold part time jobs to finance their rowing careers. Being a full time student, a full time athlete and holding a part time job can be very taxing for these athletes. Beginning in the fall of 2015, the Ninth Oar will offer a book scholarship to help finance some of our athlete’s academic costs. In the future the organization hopes to expand these financial aid programs to include a membership (or “dues”) scholarship for deserving student athletes.
